Teen Mobile Phone / Device Agreement Sample

This Agreement is specifically tailored to Christian families.

We were asked about a sample mobile phone / device usage agreement for Christian parents and their believing teens and/or young adults. Most of the fill-in-the-blank agreements we saw focused on specifics but were light on providing reasons for them.

To address a perceived need, we created a document to help Christian families establish a Godly mobile phone / device standard. This sample agreement is not a list of “do not do this” items. Instead, this agreement aims to identify Scriptural standards for determining what constitutes Godly usage of mobile phones and devices. Voluntary consent to follow these standards is part of the agreement.

To the best of our ability, the guidelines identified within this sample agreement were established by God. These guidelines were not merely given to teens or young adults but to Christians of all ages. The unique challenge for youth in this area is largely due to their inexperience and the existence of “youthful lusts” (somewhat addressed within the agreement’s safety considerations section).

Within this document (below the sample agreement and Scriptural considerations section), we offer some additional safety suggestions. Several of these also include Scriptural references. Regarding these areas, parents may need to clearly set specific behavioral guidelines. For example, the type of openness and accountability expected of their teen / young adult may need to be specified for times of talking/texting with members of the opposite sex.
